Making that Video Game Money

I got a nice surprise in the mail this week. A small postcard sized piece of paper arrived. I almost mistook it for junk mail. I ripped the folding tab, and opened it up to see a check printed on the inside. My settlement with EA Sports had arrived.

Give me some of that video game monies
It was at least back in 2011 that I filled out an online form for some crazy sounding class action lawsuit against EA sports. I really didn't think an anti-monopoly suit against EA Sports would actually be successful, Even if they did have a monopoly, I'm sure their were too lawyered up for anyone to do much about it. But since I had bought NCAA Football every year since 2002 and a few Madden games in there too, I figured I might as well take 5 minutes to fill out the form.

And boy did it pay off. The check came for $99.02. That's way more than I've made in any other class action suit, which usually end up being checks for less than $10. It was a happy day, and it looks like the unemployed lifestyle can continue on for another few days. Or I can finally buy NCAA '14.

Craft Corner 2

It's been almost 5 years since my last Craft Corner, and I'm sure plenty of readers have been anxiously waiting for the next installment.

This was a big craft project. I refinished the surface of an antique table over the course of the past two weeks.

The original table:

After sanding the table down with 100, 120 and 220 grit sand paper and filling in the cracks and gaps between the boards.

Applying some Tung oil to the sanded table to bring out the color:

The finished table after 3 coats of polyurethane.

I kept most of the distress marks, which I think adds character to the table. Even though it's sanded perfectly smooth, most of the cut marks on the corner appear to be gouges but are actually just visual, and the table is beautifully smooth.

I'm pleased with the project. Big shout out to my cousin Shawn who gave me some much appreciated advice!

Turquoise Jeep Review

Meta blog announcement: Last week I officially went over the 10,000 page view mark. Which over 6 years is about 3 pageviews a day. Way to go my 11 official followers on blogger!

So last week my sister emailed me about a show coming to town. The band was Turquoise Jeep and they were coming to my city two days later. She demanded I go, and then said that it would be blogworthy. I'll admit I wasn't very knowledgeable on their music. But after watching this YouTube video I found myself mesmerized enough to recruit some friends for the show.

First we had to get kinda drunk. So we grabbed some high powered Seattle craft beers and a few fireball shots at one of Seattle's more reputable establishments. Then we went to the show, which was an interesting mix of all ages and races, with guys in "Flynt Flo$$y is my favorite rapper" shirts and everything. The opener wasn't very good, but Jebus did Turquoise Jeep put on a great show.

The crowd got pretty into this deep cut:

But I went totes bonks (aka totally bonkers) when my jam Naughty Farmer came on:

It was a pretty awesome show, my buddy Rob showed up with his friend and got sloppy. Flynt Flossy is still the best. Pretty Raheem was impressive, but unfortunately Slick Mahoney was nowhere to be found.

Here's a picture from the show:
